How many days per week should you train?

For beginners, Muay Thai training should not exceed three days a week but those who wish to become a pro should train five to six days per week.

Here’s why: Training three days help you beginners descent at the sport. They don’t need too much more than thrice a week until their body has fully adapted—it takes about 30 to 45 days most times.

On the other hand, those who really want to fight and are healthy young improvers can train every day. At the Muay Thai gyms in Thailand, for instance, fighters commonly train two times a day for six days a week. Training is important, but the rest is just as important too. Series of training without a moment to rest or relax the body is not good enough. You might break down completely.

For people with busy schedules who can only make it to the gym once, training one day a week is okay. Though you could still try out shadow boxing if you have some spare time—practicing on a heavy bag is not a bad idea either.

Muay Thai burns upwards of 600 to 800 calories in a single season and it really does blast the anaerobic conditioning system. This is a huge benefit, especially for those committed to other sports like running, rowing, soccer or even boxing. So, if you train only once per week for too long, it might take you forever to pick up the high-level skills.

If you want to fight in Muay Thai, training in the gym at least three times a week and supplementing this with your strength training twice per week help you achieve your goal. You may even need to train two times a day to get your cardio runs in.
