Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway are set to fight next month at the UFC 251 event.
The UFC has begun preparations for its next big event, which should be UFC 251, to be held on July 11 on Fight Island. Although this year, for all clear reasons, there will be no International Fight Week in Las Vegas, the promotion will still organize a strong program on the popular date of the second weekend in July. It seems that there will be three fights for the title on it, and the first of them is about to be officially confirmed.
As Ariel Helwani reveals, Alexander Volkanovski will have to defend his first lightweight title against the man he took it away from in December last year, Max Holloway. The Australian Macedonian was faster, more precise, and more concrete in that fight than the then-dominant champion. However, it is precisely this dominance, but also the popularity of Holloway, that is the reason why he will immediately get the opportunity to return the belt to where it was three years before.
They were actually originally supposed to lead the real UFC 251, which would normally take place on June 7 in Perth. But as everything changed, so the event got a new date and venue. The UFC’s Fight Island should be up and running soon, and unofficial information reveals to us that it is located in Abu Dhabi.
In addition to this fight, Helwani reveals that two more title fights should be found on that program. The first is the already announced fight for the bantamweight title between Jose Aldo and Peter Yay, while it is believed that the welterweight title will be defended by Kamara Usman there. The list of his potential opponents is a bit bigger, but it seems that Gilbert Burns is currently the best ranked.
