This is a review of the RDX MMA Gloves for Grappling Martial Arts.
Combat sports are serious business. Many sports hold the possibility of heavy injury but in combat sports and martial arts, injuries are what it’s all about. In an inherently violent sport, art or hobby, safety is the top priority. Over the years I have spent in training, I have seen more injuries than I should have, and though about 60-70% of the injuries were just accidents, the rest were usually due to bad equipment.
This is why in my reviews, I try to review products objectively and justly. I don’t believe reviewing, promoting, or selling a low-quality product is morally justifiable, especially when it can cost somebody’s health, safety, or career. I tried to keep myself to these standards while reviewing this product as well.
I found the RDX MMA Gloves for Grappling Martial Arts to be one of the best gloves for martial arts and combat sports that I have reviewed so far. They are high-quality, durable, they look great, they are fun to use, and the list just goes on.
In this review, I will touch on some of the most important features of these gloves and what makes them a great product, talk about some of its better features, pros, and cons, and provide an overall image and review of the product which will make it easier for you to make a better decision when choosing a pair of gloves.
If you are looking for a pair of high-quality gloves but you just don’t know which one to choose, I suggest you read on and find out more about the RDX MMA Gloves for Grappling Martial Arts!
RDX MMA Gloves for Grappling Martial Arts Overview
These gloves are MMA-style gloves or so-called hybrid gloves. This means that they are a combined product of the boxing and wrestling gloves, which results in these gloves having almost as much room and freedom of movement as wrestling gloves have, but also a substantial amount of padding which can protect one’s hands from fractures and in general, impact damage.
The RDX MMA Gloves for Grappling Martial Arts are thus, high-quality MMA gloves, which mostly serve the purpose of cross-training several different martial arts.
What makes the RDX MMA gloves stand out of the crowd is quite simply put, their high quality. They are made of great materials, by a great brand, and for long-term use. They are durable and also have a pleasing aesthetic, which is a more important factor in the overall experience of training or fighting than many would believe intuitively.
Genuine Cowhide Leather
One of the main features of this pair of gloves is the material they are made of. It isn’t 100% cowhide, since there are clearly some parts of the gloves which need to be made out of some other material like foam or neoprene-like synthetic materials, however, a majority of these gloves are made of genuine cowhide leather.
Though people who take animal rights to heart more than average might not want to have anything to do with genuine cowhide, there is no debating the fact that it is one of the best materials to make gloves out of. It has many qualities which cause this, one of the main ones is undoubtedly durability. Genuine, high-quality cowhide is one of the most durable materials any sort of clothing apparel can be made out of.
When it comes to combat gloves, durability is key since you will spend most of your time battering and destroying these gloves, so the extra strength of the cowhide leather is something that is definitely going to save you some bucks down the road, since you won’t have to buy a new pair of gloves every few months.
Extra Thick Knuckle and Wrist Protection
As I have mentioned earlier, safety and the protection of the hands and the opponent’s bones is one of the most important aspects of sensible martial art practice. These RDX gloves perform amazingly in these regards as well.
The extra-thick tri-slab foam-based padding with a separate padded area over the wrist-joint provides excellent protection for your hands, better than most gloves I have tested so far. Aside from this, both of these protective parts on the gloves have different types of foam in them, all engineered to provide maximum safety, along with a layer of shock-dissipating gel.
Having a pair of gloves on your hand is not enough to protect your hands, and even if you have a relatively good pair of gloves, your wrists and knuckles can still suffer a great deal of damage over the years and decades you will be training. This is why a high-quality pair like these, with so much visible effort put into the protection of your hands, is a worthy investment.
These RDX gloves are mostly grappling gloves (though they can easily be used for practicing striking arts as well), which is why gripping ability is one of the most important aspects to look out for. Fortunately, these gloves have an open-palm design, so when you are grappling, you can use much of your hands as if you didn’t even have gloves on you. Since the fingers are free anyway, and with this design, the palms are also exposed, you can play around with your grip strength and your palm-contact techniques as well.
This makes it a lot more fun to train, knowing that you can’t only practice striking really well with these gloves, but also get a realistic grappling experience.
Pros and Cons
My conclusion is nothing but positive. Again, as with most higher-quality gloves, if you don’t see yourself in the martial arts world for more than maybe a couple of months, it is an unnecessary expense. However, if you plan on training, and training hard, these gloves are going to be your best friends for a long time. They are durable, they look and feel great, and they are some of the most protective gloves I have personally tested and tried.
