UFC Vegas 66 Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland at Apex in Las Vegas

Merry Christmas Happy New Year + Weekly MMA Report

There were many great combats at the last UFC event of 2022 (UFC Vegas 66). Unfortunately, the main event ended in a very controversial split draw between Sean Strickland and Jared Cannonier. Jared won, but Strickland made more visible damage to Jared’s face. Weird judges’ scorecards too, as the two of them, scored 49-46 Cannonier, while one of them gave four rounds to Strickland (49-46 Sean).

Drew Dober and Bobby Green earned the Fight of the Night award, as the two took part in a violent toe-to-toe battle. Green was leading after round 1, but Dober caught him in the second with a big left hook, which ended the fight. Both fighters earned an extra 50k.

One of the best knockouts of the year happened in the combat between Alex Caceres and Julian Erosa, as Caceres teleported Erosa into another dimension with a very tricky left high kick to the chin, which led to the Performance of the Night award!

The second POTN award went into the hands of Michal Oleksiejczuk, who reversed Cody Brundage on the ground and destroyed him with violent punches off the top position.

Some entertaining match-ups are set, for example, Roman Dolidze will square off against Marvin Vettori at the UFC 286 event, while Holly Holm and Yana Kunitskaya are returning after a long time, and the two are set to cross their gloves on March 25th, 2023!

There won’t be a UFC event for the next three weeks, so The Way of Martial Arts wishes u Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! And no worries, we’re getting back after the holidays with an even greater set of topics and training pieces of advice for martial artists!
