McGregor FAST Review

If you’re trying to become an elite athlete, you’ve probably searched for workout plans to help you practice like the elites. Well, with the McGregor FAST app, you can do just that – practice like Conor McGregor.

McGregor FAST is a detailed, zone-based workout plan that helps you get in peak physical and mental shape not just for MMA but any other sport. It has a very scientific approach to the workouts, making it extremely efficient and potent for every athlete.

The Gold (more expensive) plan even has a detailed diet plan. You’ll also need some equipment to complete all the exercises, but at the end of the day, it works, and if you can be persistent, it’s worth the effort.

Let’s dive deep and see what McGregor FAST is all about, how does it work, what are the pros and cons, and finally – will you be like Conor if you follow the plan?

McGregor FAST Overview

So, what is McGregor FAST exactly? The plan had been developed after Conor McGregor’s unexpected loss to Nate Diaz. He felt like he got gassed too quickly, even though he had a full training camp behind him. So, he wanted to find a better way to practice and get into peak condition.

He put together an elite team of doctors and sports scientists to develop FAST, transform his body, and compete at the highest possible level. Apart from Conor, the leading face behind this program is Dr. Julian Dalby, aka “Doc.”

He and his team knew Conor even before the program had been developed and said he always pushed himself to the limits to be the hardest worker, but without the science and structure he needed to optimize that hard work to get the best effects. After the loss, they started treating the gym as if it were a lab.

Every workout has a purpose. Depending on the intensity, a person uses different energy systems to perform. If you want the best results, you have to address them all.

So, through trial and error, testing, and evaluation, Conor, Doc, and Colin Byrne developed an unprecedented formula for maximum results regardless of your current fitness level.

Getting Started With McGregor FAST

Everything is adjusted to you, whether you’re just a beginner or a pro athlete. The workouts are divided into three zones – Green, Orange, and Red. Every zone marks a different intensity level that’s determined by your heart rate as you exercise. So, how do you know where you stand?

Well, you’ll need a heart rate monitor to start. First, measure your heart rate before you get out of bed. Then, you need to measure it on a treadmill, on three different intensity levels, representing the three zones.

Each zone will have a BPM mark based on your heart rate measurements and the level of program difficulty you choose: beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Choose a program that suits your current fitness level.

Green is the light-to-moderate exercise zone, also known as the Aerobic Threshold Point. The exercises here are of lower intensity but longer-lasting. As you progress, the green zone helps you raise your stamina and endurance and starts the fat burning inside your body.

Orange is a harder but sustainable zone that will require some explosiveness and higher energy consumption. That’s the point where your body starts spending glucose to fuel the workouts instead of just fat. You’ll feel an increase in power and muscle strength.

Red is extremely hard, meaning the red zone workouts will be challenging even for advanced athletes. Usually, those are anaerobic, high-intensity workouts that require an immense power output. The result is a visible muscle growth over time and an overall rise in explosiveness.

Do you see what happens here? As your workouts are split into zones, you tap into endurance, stamina, explosiveness, and power intelligently, and one thing pulls the other, allowing you to get peak results.

McGregor FAST Pros

Don’t be mistaken and think that you’ll suddenly become an elite fighter just like Conor if you choose to undergo the McGregor FAST program. The program doesn’t provide the technique and other fighting exercises. It ensures that it’ll surely get you in the right physical condition to become an elite athlete, regardless of the sport.

I love the approach they had when creating the program. The zones are very intelligently put together, and the program is highly individual for everybody, depending on your heart rates, treadmill test results, and overall fitness level.

The workout plan lasts twelve weeks, and you will already see great results after four. Of course, if you’re expecting a magical transformation from chubby to super buff in a month, you’re delusional – no workout plan in the world can help you get that.

However, the results are clearly visible, and I can guarantee from personal experience that you will not only see them but feel them, too.

For instance, when I started the program and went with the intermediate plan, my resting heart rate was 62 BPM, which is right around average.

After four weeks, my resting heart rate was at 49 BPM. That’s huge progress, especially when you start the workouts and try to “feel” the exertion. My conditioning went through the roof.

What I want to highlight, though, is that you shouldn’t get discouraged if you can’t hit the BPM ranges in all zones and all exercises right from the start. I started hitting my zones at the end of week two. The most important thing is to keep pushing and trying to hit the Green, Orange, and Red zones, and progress will come.

I also see the equipment as a pro. Although you might not have everything you need at home, you don’t need too much, and every local gym has all the equipment at hand.

You’ll need a stationary bike, a treadmill, a rowing machine, and a punching bag. I recommend not trying to alter the equipment and using something else if you want the best results.

The best part about the program for me is the other materials you get apart from the workouts alone. You can get:

  • a great diet plan,
  • recommendations,
  • and newsletters.

You can even get once-a-week free consultations with the members of Conor’s inner circle and team to help you get to where you need to be.

McGregor FAST Cons

I’ll start with the obvious – the price. The McGregor FAST program isn’t affordable for everybody – if you want the golden program with all the features and the best results, such as a diet plan, consultations, etc.

The Gold plan goes for $95 a month, while the Silver plan is much more affordable at $20 a month. However, the Silver plan doesn’t get you all the features, such as the meal plan or the consultations. My conclusion is, if you want to train like an elite athlete, you can’t expect it’ll be for free.

Even though I’ve put the equipment like a pro, I’ll put it here as a con too – because it’s yet another expense. You probably have none of the stuff at home.

You could replace a stationary bike and a treadmill with actual cycling and running, but you won’t get the same results. You’ll have obstacles, traffic lights turns, and other stuff slowing you down.

Even if that works, what about the rowing machine and the punching bag? Even if you pay a gym membership, they still might not have a punching bag, so you’ll have to get that somehow too. Ultimately, it’s yet another expense you need to think about before opting in and getting the McGregor FAST app.

Although the zone-based workouts are a fantastic thing, I think you shouldn’t live and die by the heart rate monitor or be too worried if you can’t get the zone’s BPM range.

I got discouraged several times because, no matter how hard I’ve tried, I just couldn’t get there, and it made me wonder if it’s all worth it. Don’t worry like that, because the results are coming.

I’m trying to say that the biggest “problem” I see with the app is that it doesn’t do much to motivate you apart from setting the zones, pushing you to the limits, etc. The consultations surely help, but I strongly recommend you to set a real goal for yourself apart from just “getting fit.”

Elite athletes have ultimate goals, which leads them to push themselves to the limit and get the most out of every exercise. If you don’t have the same mindset, no app in this world can help you train, look, or feel like an elite athlete.

Finally, one last tiny thing that I see as a con is that I’d like to hear the voice overs between exercises tell you more without having to look at the phone. For instance, are we doing twenty reps? Are we doing twenty seconds? More detail about the exercise would help, but that’s just a matter of my preference.

McGregor FAST Review: My Verdict

In the end, I can’t say enough about how cool the McGregor FAST program is. It will definitely push you to the limits and test your will and determination, but it was incredibly addicting to me, and I just couldn’t wait for the next workout to come.

If you want elite training, you have to be aware that it’ll cost some money. Luckily, I already have a gym membership, and they have all four pieces of equipment you’ll need when using McGregor FAST. If you plan on purchasing the app, make sure you have all the necessary equipment at hand.

The program itself is fantastic, and I believe it can turn anyone into an elite athlete (read, athlete, not a fighter). The exertion zone system, heart rate monitoring, and the overall complexity of the program’s development make everything feel a lot more scientific.

That means you know you’re getting peak results out of each workout instead of just going through the motions, hoping it’ll get you results.

I made more progress in four weeks than in four months in the gym doing my workouts. Will it transform you from chubby to ripped in a month? It won’t, but in the end, there’s not a program in the world that will.

It takes time to become an elite athlete, and McGregor FAST will certainly get you there if you have the will and the motivation to do so.

How Much Does McGregor FAST Cost?

There are two levels in the McGregor FAST app: Silver costs $20/month, while Gold costs $95/month. You can also purchase the program through the McGregorFAST.com website, which is $99 for the app with additional subscription charges.

How Do You Cancel McGregor FAST Subscription?

The subscription cancelation differs based on where you got the app. If you got it from the website, your subscription is a one-time charge lasting for 12 months, ending automatically after the twelve months have elapsed.

If you got it on Google Play Store, go to your Google Account, tap Menu Subscriptions, find McGregor FAST, and tap Cancel subscription.

If you got it on the iOS App Store, open the Settings tab on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, and navigate to Subscriptions. Then find the McGregor FAST subscription and tap Cancel subscription.
