Can Floyd Mayweather Jr. Read? Or Was Conor McGregor Right?

Can Floyd Mayweather Read? [Or Was Conor McGregor Right?]

In case you haven’t been following the news, in the time before the boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor, the latter accused Mayweather that he couldn’t read, and he wasn’t the only one to do it. So, what is the truth? Can Floyd Mayweather Jr. read or not?

Floyd Mayweather can read. There is a talk going around that he Floyd is not able to read. That story started during May-Mac World Tour when Conor McGregor called Floyd out that he doesn’t know how to read. However, that is not true.

During the promotion of the fight, Conor McGregor has trash-talked about Floyd Mayweather Jr. and mocked his reading, but he wasn’t the first one to do it.

50 Cent questioned whether Floyd Mayweather Jr. could read

50 Cent and Floyd Mayweather Jr. were once friends, but things have changed. It is hard to tell why exactly their friendship fell apart, because we only have their words to take for it, but, as it often is, it looks like money was the reason for the fallout. That was somewhere in 2012.

Now, for years, their dispute lasts, and in one of those mockings over social media, 50 Cent told the public that Floyd Mayweather Jr. couldn’t read.

Talks about Mayweather’s reading first started when 50 Cent challenged him to read a page of a Harry Potter book and told that if Mayweather could read, he would pay $750,000 to a charity of Mayweather’s choice.

Floyd responded to that challenge by posting this in response on his Twitter account:

This is not really the answer to our question if Floyd Mayweather Jr. can read or not, but we will come to that.

Ronda Rousey Says Floyd Mayweather Jr. Can’t Read

Then, after 50 Cent, Ronda Rousey entered the social network fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and she, as well, accused him that he couldn’t read.

Outside the ring, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is, unfortunately, well known for beating women, something he’s been accused for several times. That is something former the UFC Champion, Ronda Rousey, couldn’t let go (unlike boxing organizations that have).

It all started when Rousey beat Mayweather for the “Best Fighter” award and asked him on live TV “I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once?”

Mayweather’s response was that she should call him when she makes $300 million on a single night fight.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, her answer came, and it was again questioned if Mayweather can read.

“I don’t know if you saw the Floyd thing, he said ‘if you make $300 million in a night you can give me a call.’ I actually did the math and given the numbers of my last fight I’m actually the highest paid UFC fighter, and I’m a woman. I think I actually make two to three times more than he does per second. When he learns to read and write, he can text me…. I’m just a little bit more efficient.”

And now we come to Conor McGregor.

Can Floyd Mayweather Jr. Read? Or Was Conor McGregor Right?

The buildup to the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was very intense. During their promotional tours, things got even more heated.

On one of those tours, McGregor mocked Mayweather about his reading ability, saying:

“What are you doing with a school bag on stage? You can’t even read.”

– Conor McGregor

That was some great fight promotion, and you can see it all below.

But, what about the thing he said about Mayweather’s reading? Was McGregor right? Well, as we said in the opening of this article, he wasn’t. If he’d said Mayweather was a bad reader, then he would have been right.

Mayweather basically raised himself and left school early in order to devote himself to boxing. There’s also the question whether he had dyslexia and if anyone tested him for it? We can’t be sure about that part, but we can be sure about his reading, as you can see below.

Even though he is reading pretty badly in these two videos, he is still reading. These videos prove that Mayweather can read, but also that his reading is quite poor.

TMZ Sports posted a video where Floyd Mayweather Jr. wanted to prove he could read, recording promotional videos for his upcoming fight, but we can’t know if Mayweather was really reading something there, or did he just memorize the text for these promotions.

So, our conclusion would be that Floyd Mayweather Jr. really can read, far from good, but still can. Maybe it isn’t cool to mock someone over his reading skills, more so if he has problems with dyslexia, but then you remember that he really isn’t a good man, so it could just be karma coming back to haunt him.

It is hard to think that someone so rich, with so many papers around him, probably messaging, contracts, and other things can’t read anything. He’s probably just bad at it.
